The whole of the Netherlands knows it, in Rotterdam the sleeves are always rolled up! In the city, in the harbor but also in miniature Rotterdam. You can see more of that in the video at the top right. Just as the city of Rotterdam is never 'finished', Miniworld Rotterdam is also always on the move.
In the miniature world, Rotterdam is also being continuous improved just like in real life, made more beautiful, new things invented and added to. That's why it's super fun to take a look at Miniworld regularly and that's exactly what we do today!
There are 4 themes in Miniworld
1) Rotterdam in miniature, get to know the city well - 2) The Port of Rotterdam, get to know the port - 3) Water and Harbour, water management & the Port of Rotterdam
The last theme is their latest expansion: 4) England & Scotland, in miniature!
First we're going to explore the Port of Rotterdam, we wouldn't be Rotterdammers if we didn't love the Port! We see the blue Caland Bridge, the ECT Container Terminal on the Maasvlakte and the Merwede Shipyard.
Of course we also recognized our city bridges, the Erasmus Bridge (De Zwaan), De Koningshaven Bridge (De Hef) and the Maas Bridges, among others. Besides the harbor, Rotterdammers love bridges a lot. We wouldn't get anywhere, if we didn't have them :))
We take a look around the city of Rotterdam in miniature, so much fun to look around here, and see what you can recognize. There are many familiar buildings such as Hotel New York; Rotterdam City Hall; the New Central Station and the Cube Houses. But we also see places around Rotterdam, with the Windmills of Kinderdijk, for example, all in miniature.
We also see two of the major crowd pleasers of Rotterdam, Blijdorp Zoo and the impressive Feyenoord Football Stadium. There are buttons everywhere, so you can make things move or run. Rails and trains run to and fro through the entire model world. Great success with kids and adults!
In Miniworld Rotterdam, the day only lasts 24 minutes, then the evening sets in. Slowly it gets dark and all the lights begin to twinkle. The buzz of the city winds down and night falls...
But then the day breaks and everyone wakes up. Everything is moving again, trains everywhere are racing to their destination. Trucks bring their cargo to the largest miniature port in Europe. But one thing doesn't change in Miniworld Rotterdam and that's the weather. It never storms or rains here!
Before we walk back in search of Theme 4, England and Scotland, we first arrive at the colourful fair with all kinds of attractions. Puk loves the fair! Then we walk past the display cases with the models of an old tugboat(?), cars and many train carriages. We would like to take a serious look at them. If we look closely we see many more old vehicles such as a horse and wagon, a double-decker bus and a stagecoach. But there is also a crane, a tractor and a tank, it's a colourful collection.
Then we descend to the basement, where you can see the latest theme Great Britain: England & Scotland
We are not disappointed even though the model is still a work in progress. We see the mountains of Scotland and the hills of England with the White Cliffs of Dover. The nice British houses and a beautiful castle!
What a job this must have been and still be before it is finished! It is very nice to see how such a model is created. Actually, it is a look behind the scenes, while there is still being worked on.
Throughout the model, historic trains run over bridges and viaducts through England and Scotland. There's Stonehenge and a UFO is about to land. They have a great sense of humor at Miniworld! :D
Would we now like to inform you that our time here is now over (due to the corona time lock). That there is also a family restaurant with tasty snacks and drinks, but we don't have time for that anymore. We quickly stop by the shop and then go home.
It was a wonderful event and we actually learned a lot today, about Rotterdam! :)))
