In Britain, in the fall of 2016 the first part of a trilogie named Podkin One-ear, by Kieran Larwood, was published. What a lovely book to read (to) this winter! Podkin One-ear is a true fantasy novel for children, in the best sense of the word. It is very well written and exciting.
The faded gray printed black and white illustrations by David Wyatt are gorgeous, very detailed and atmospheric. They bring the characters in the book to life and show the force of power against which the little rabbits have to defend themselves.
In Britain the book won The Blue Peter Book Award for Best Story of 2017 - a prestigious award - and it was voted Waterstone's Children's Book of the Month of June 2017. In 2017 the book was translated into Dutch and now it is nominated by the Dutch Children's Book Jury 2017.
Once you finish the book you immediately want to start on part II and - how lovely! - you can. Last September Podkin One-ear ll, The Gift of Dark Hollow was published already. For part lll we sadly have to wait until October 2018.
