A fun day out that we don't just save for the summer vacation is a visit to Arboretum Trompenburg, you can find us there all year round. But now it is summer vacation and Puk has his JeugdVakantiePaspoort with which all the kids in Rotterdam can do an exciting scavenger hunt in the Arboretum. Which we did it last year and then it was a great success!

At the entrance, Puk is given a landing net, a clipboard with a pencil and a backpack. In the backpack - most important! - there are the assignments, a map, a magnifying glass on a jar and a centimeter. Curious what we are going to do?

This year the tour starts with downloading an app, then the trees will talk to you. No time for that says Puk, we first go to the Koi carp, his favorites, assignment number 3. On our way to the Koi Carp we run into signs with pine cones, they guide us to mission number 2, which is about pine trees.

We have to look for the pine forest so we follow the signs and very soon we found it! Then we need to find a particular pine tree but what is it's name? Quickly we write the name of the tree down on our clipboard. Wat is it's name? We keep that a secret ;))

How Nice, you may take the cones of the pine trees home with you. There will be enough pine cones left for the other children because there are so many! But now to the Koi Carp!

In and on the water where the Koi carp live there are a lot of aquatic animals to be found, you may catch them. Then you can view them in the jar and quickly put them back in the water. With the help of an animal card we can fill in which animals we have seen. We saw a water spider; a blue dragonfly, an Ice Skater and a school of little bass fish.

And what do we see on the other side of the water? Sign number 4. There must be a very special tree, but that will be difficult to find, here grow only very special trees! To answer the question we have to count, but that is not easy either! Puk can't wait to find out if we have the right answer.

After the Koi Carp and assignment 4 we make our way to the tea house for a stop with tea, cake and an ice cream. A good time because we are half way into the scavenger hunt. Along the way we come across so many beautiful things! An aviary with the cutest baby birds, a greenhouse with only cacti, a bee hotel, a beautiful butterfly, a water turtle on an island (is it real?) and everywhere you look you see the most beautiful trees, flowers and shrubs!

When you come to this gate you can just go through and you will see this on the other side. We also encounter large mushrooms and it is not even autumn, they are beautiful! We move on because we want tea and cake, but it is handy that we already see where our assignments can be found later on.

After we had tea we go into this mysterious lane again. There is task 6 already but we shall keep this one a surprise! Task 5 comes shortly after it, with some difficult questions to answer! We first we have to count again and then we have to think really hard what the right answer could be! When everything is written down we walk to our final assignment, task 7.

When we arrive at task seven we immediately see what we are supposed to do, maybe you can already see it too. When we have checked if we have written everything down properly, we go to the exit.

The backpack with all the items and the landing net are returned and the clipboard is viewed by the lady. If you've done your best, you may choose a small plant to take home.

Thank you Arboretum, for a fun day out and the cute plant!
