What do you need?
a couple of walnuts
some wool
cotton thread
wooden bead
pipecleaner
pieces of felt, in various pink and green
needle and matching yarn
embroidery yarn
sharpies
hobby glue
tools
To split the walnut neatly you need adult help and a few extra walnuts. It does not always go right the first time!
These are the tools we used:
- a nutcracker and a knife
- cutting and bending pliers
- a gimlet
- scissors
How to make Thumbeline and her bed
First open the nut!
Scrape the walnut clean,
Drill a hole in both the sides.
Cut off a piece of wool.
Fill up the nut bed with it,
Cut a leaf from felt.
Cut out a pink petal.
Tie a rope through the holes.
The bed is ready, now we make Thumbeline
Bend the pipecleaner into a body.
Glue the bead on top.
Cut off, bend hands and feet.
Cut petals from felt.
Fasten the petals around the nack.
Draw a face on the bead.
Wind embroidery yarn around your fingers.
Tie off, cut in the middle and stick on the head.
Thumbeline is ready!
