On July 9th 2022, the new Himalayan habitat for Red Pandas and Tufted Deer was opened in Blijdorp Zoo. We wanted to see it for ourselves and today was the day! We always have an early start, but especially during the holidays, so that we can avoid the crowds. Another plus: then the mini monsters can stand in front everywhere and see everything up close. ;))
Just inside we immediately saw a pointer to the new Panda residence! But on the way there you will encounter many beautiful animals, such as the Amur Leopard for example. He sat down nicely, we think for the photo.
We walk past the Pelicans, who are sitting cozily on their island together. Soon someone comes to see us, a curious Pelican. From there it is just a short walk to visit our favorite animal. We know the Komodo Dragon is a very dangerous predator, but we have a tame one at home. (Good thing, too!)
Then we move on to the new Himalayan panda habitat! Our expectations were a bit too high because the accommodation looks nice, but we only see the pandas in the trees. They're beautiful and cute but we've seen them like this so many times! Fortunately, the mini-monsters like the Himalayan rock very much and they don't think about it like we do. That we don't see any Tufted deer can't even spoil the fun!
But now we go to the playground and have an ice cream, a promise is a promise. But then we go walking around again, because we have a lot more to see today!
