What fruit grows in our little garden?
Red currants
Strawberries
Blackberries
Grapes
Raspberries
Plums
The red currants have long since been eaten, and after pruning them last fall, the harvest was amazing. The birds were very happy with it too! But a week ago, we harvested our first 'batch' of fruit—not a huge number, but still.
We have considerably more blackberries than last year (1 blackberry!) and the raspberries are just starting to ripen. The little monsters are very proud of the harvest! They help to water the plants every day, so they can be proud of their work!
We don't see any birds on the raspberry bush, not one, but plenty of bees and bumblebees. The bumblebees, in particular, are up to all sorts of antics and jostle each other on the bush :)) They're not interested in ripe raspberries, but they are in the plant. How convenient!
The blackberry plants have really shot up since we planted them last year. So this year, yes indeed, we have beautiful blackberries on the bush. They don't like the little monsters at all, but they are very pretty.
There's another special event in the garden! A plum tree that blooms beautifully every year—and has been there for 10 years but has never produced a single plum—is covered in green plums this year! We couldn't believe our eyes, but it's true. Whether they'll actually ripen and be edible, we have no idea. We'll have to wait and see!
The strawberry plants grew exactly 4 strawberries in June, in mid- juli we harvested 3 more. There isl one ripe strawberry on the plant now, so we're curious to see what will happen with it. The birds love strawberries too, so they've happily been eating them with us again, this year. Those birds are up so early in Summer, they beat us to it!
Here you see our first raspberry and blackberry harvest..
This is our latest harvest, so far, it's going well in the garden!
Only the grapes aren't producing fruit after the last rigorous pruning. We're giving them a nice organic fertilizer, and the plant is growing well, but no grapes!
Maybe better luck next year.
Happy summer to all!
