In 'The sea came through the letterbox', the Dutch children's book writer Selma Noort tells a true story of the Flood of 1953. In Zeeland it stormed that night and the sea raged around the house of a family with three children, would they be safe from the water?

It is an exciting story that Selma Noort's friend told her. That friend is Liesje, one of the childeren in the family that the book is about. Now we know that it is going to end well and that is nice, because the experiences of the children are already exciting enough. A pity the book is not translated into English.

The cover of the book is beautifully drawn by Martijn van der Linden. Each chapter has a small drawing too, which makes the book look lighter. The letter is large with lots of space in between, which makes the book easier to read. The chapters are short, perfect for the age group the book is intended for. In 2016 it was awarded With Flying Colours and it won the Thea Beckman Prize. It is a wonderful book!

3 stars for The Sea came through the letterbox, from the out-loud readers and the mini monsters!
