Christmas Eve at the Mellops' is a very special book by the Strasbourg-born artist/illustrator Tomi Tomi Ungerer (1931 - 2019). This artist was so special that in 2007 he even got his own museum in his birthplace. It's nice that he lived to see it for himself. Mr Mellops tells his children it's almost Christmas. The kids are happy and excited, that's so much fun, Christmas. They plan - each on his own - a nice surprise for Christmas. But that goes wrong, they all came up with the same surprise!
The children thought: then we'll take our surprise to a hospital, but they alreadyhad enough 'surprises' and in prison too. Couldn't they please anyone with theirs? they felt a little sad. Unexpectedly though they could!
When the kids get back home there is a surprise form them and then it's really Christmas!
The lovely story together with the funny illustrations means that the book comes out of the bookcase every Christmas. The mini monsters like the book a lot, especially the people banks they found very funny.
